Every Child Ministries
Every Child Ministries (ECM) helps ordinary people become advocates for the forgotten children of Africa. Those forgotten children are homeless street children, child slaves, orphans, and other downtrodden and marginalized groups. One way to become an advocate is through child sponsorship. For $30 a month a sponsor can give a child a chance to attend school receive spiritual help, extra nutrition, and more. The sponsor corresponds with the child, receives progress reports, and can even visit the child if desired.
Christine Marino began supporting Joan from Uganda in 2008. But she wondered if her sponsorship funds were used legitimately. Was there really a little girl in Uganda named Joan? Was she really HIV positive, as her sponsorship packet claimed? Was her monthly gift really reaching Joan, really helping her? Joan decided to travel to Uganda and find out. She found Joan, visited her home and her school, and saw how her sponsorship gifts were being used. She was so thrilled with what she found that Christine has become an active advocate of child sponsorship and has enlisted 16 others as sponsors. She recently made another trip to Uganda which she described as “unforgettable”. Christine complimented the ECM Uganda staff as professional, kind, and enthusiastic. Now her goal is to help Every Child Ministries find more sponsors for the forgotten children.
Joan now has active AIDS, but through Christine’s help, she is attending school and doing well. ECM workers visiting the home noticed that the family slept on the bare floor. They now sleep on mattresses under treated mosquito nets, which reduces Joan’s vulnerability to disease. Joan now knows that she is valuable to God and to other people as well. As for Christine, she is all smiles when she realizes what a difference her sponsorship has made to Joan’s life.
